ASTM A193 Grade B7

Specification for High Temperature Bolting

ASTM A193 Grade B7

ASTM A193 Grade B7 Stud Bolts ASTM A193 Grade B7 is a standard specification for high tensile alloy steel bolting material for use in high temperature or high-pressure service and other special purpose applications. It covers material specification for bolting used in pressure vessel service, valves, flanges and fittings. ASTM A193 grade b7 stud bolts are heavily utilized in petroleum and chemical construction applications. This specification defines both SI (Metric) and inch-pound units.

Grade B7 is a heat-treated chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) alloy steel with minimum tensile strength requirement of 125 ksi, yield 105 ksi, and maximum hardness of 35 HRC. FERROBEND uses Alloy Steel AISI 4140 bar stock or forging stock to produce B7 headed and non-headed bolts. A193 Grade B7 is the most commonly used Bolt specification coupled with A194 Grade 2H Nuts for Bolting Carbon Steel pipeline. A193 B7 bolting is available in metric sizes from M6 to M180 and imperial sizes from 1/4 to 8 inches, in diameter.

FERROBEND is a manufacturer and supplier of A193 Grade B7 fasteners in form of Stud Bolts (Studs), Hex Bolts, Socket Head Cap Screws, Threaded Rods, Heavy Hex Bolts, Hex Screws, Double End Studs, Eye Bolts, Galvanized Hex Bolts, Anchor Bolts, etc.

Frequently asked questions

What is ASTM A193 Grade B7?

ASTM A193 Grade B7 is a heat-treated chromium-molybdenum alloy-steel bolting grade used primarily for high-temperature or high-pressure service in flanges, valves, fittings and pressure vessels.

What nut grade is commonly paired with Grade B7?

ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts are commonly paired with ASTM A193 Grade B7 bolting. The final pairing must follow the applicable piping, equipment and project specification.

Is Grade B7 the same as a fastener dimensional standard?

No. ASTM A193 Grade B7 defines material and mechanical requirements. Standards such as ASME B18.2.1, ASME B18.31.2, DIN 931 or DIN 976 define product dimensions and tolerances.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Provide the product type, dimensional standard, diameter, thread pitch, length, coating or finish, quantity, inspection requirements and required material certification.

Can Grade B7 fasteners be coated?

Yes. Options include PTFE, zinc, zinc-nickel, zinc-flake, hot-dip galvanized, phosphate and ceramic systems. Coating suitability depends on temperature, corrosion exposure, thread allowance and required friction behavior.
